The Miura 2 RS is your future-proof introductory glider, making it the perfect “first date” with the world’s most beautiful sport. One wing, two certifications.

With 48 cells and a wide speed range, the Miura 2 RS is designed to be a fully featured glider, while still meeting the strict certification standards for school gliders with moderate use of the speed system. The Miura 2 RS takes our proven success concept into its second generation, helping you to discover and improve your flying skills. The playful handling and outstanding performance in this class ensure that the Miura 2 RS will still put a smile on your face after many years.

The Miura 2 RS is an all-round feel-good package with very easy launch characteristics, playfully intuitive handling and high canopy stability. The patented RAST technology ensures maximum control in every situation and promises pure flying fun.

What’s different from its predecessor?

• Optimised positioning of the A-lines ⇒ more stability in turbulence

• Optimised positioning of the leading edge openings ⇒ more stability in accelerated flight

• Reduced wing sweep with new brake progression ⇒ more direct and precise handling

• Sophisticated canopy curvature ⇒ more balanced spiral behaviour

• Speed-Limiter combines the A- and B-Class in one glider

• Balanced handling and excellent climbing performance

• RAST; more control and comfort

Who is the MIURA 2 RS for?

The MIURA 2 RS is designed for those pilots who are just finishing or have just completed their training. Allowing those pilots much more latitude with their first wing. To start, you can keep the speed limiter on and increase your confidence while flying it as an EN/LTF A. Then when you feel you want to move on, just remove the speed limiter and you have a completely familiar wing that is now a low EN/LTF B glider. Giving you the opportunity to explore further but without having to buy a completely new wing!

That is why we decided to certify the MIURA 2 RS twice: Once as a basic intermediate glider with the performance advantages of the B class, and additionally as a beginner-friendly A-wing with a reduced speed system range. The easy to install speed limiter allows you to switch effortlessly between A and B classes as needed.

With this unique feature, the Miura 2 RS is suitable for both the newly licensed pilot and the demanding recreational pilot with cross country ambitions.

Features

• RAST; On paragliders with RAST the canopy is divided into different internal pressurised sections by one or more fabric panels, some with valves running crossways to the direction of flight. This makes it possible to influence the air flows within the canopy.

With RAST, the air equalisation flows within the paraglider canopy can be regulated through defined openings. This applies both when filling,(during take-off) and when emptying. In the case of pressure loss, e.g. caused by canopy collapse in turbulent air, the relative internal pressure of the CORE section increases, while the BUFFER section absorbs the introduced energy by deformation. Furthermore, RAST can be used as an additional support to the leading and trailing edge, which has a positive effect on flight comfort. As RAST connects the ribs over the entire profile height, the construction has a stiffening effect and reinforcements and/or stiffening elements can be saved or even completely replaced by this special construction method.

The well-proven RAST-System is of course part of the MIURA 2 RS inner structure.

It gives the MIURA 2 RS the addition of stability and control and is responsible for its unique and comfortable RAST-feeling during takeoff and flight. The patented bulkhead partition with its valves helps to prevent big collapses and deformations, hence reducing the risk of uncontrolled flight patterns.

• Speed limiter; EN B glider or use as an EN A school glider

It takes just a few quick steps to limit speed system travel, turning the MIURA 2 RS into an A category glider that is suitable for learners. When training has been completed, it is just as easy to remove the limiter and enjoy the performance benefits of the B category. Thanks to high-quality accelerator pulleys with ball bearings, even long gliding passages can be mastered without getting tired.

• Nitinol Foils; the material with shape memory as nose reinforcement

Nitinol is a high-strength, temperature- and corrosion-resistant shape memory alloy. The name Nitinol is an acronym for Nickel Titanium Naval Ordnance Laboratory.

This material is well-known in medical technology, and for a long time Swing has been using it as leading edge reinforcement in paraglider design, one of the first paraglider manufacturers to do so. For the MIURA 2 RS, the Nitinol reinforcements are inserted into nylon tubes. This meant that the cross-sectional area (and thus the contact area for the top surface material) could be increased without having to forego the positive features of the memory alloy (bend-resistance, length and dimensional stability).

Mini Ribs, with 3D shaping and internal stitching
Ballooning on the trailing edge has a considerable influence on a paraglider’s control pressure and handling. That’s why, with the MIURA 2 RS, ballooning in this area was reduced to a minimum using 3D shaping, in addition to the tried and tested mini ribs. The trick here is that the mini ribs have internal stitching on the top surface so that none of the threads can get caught up on the ground and pulled out, even when launching in difficult terrain.

3D shaping for optomised aerodynamics
The targeted control of tension by 3D shaping at the leading edge of the upper sail has become standard in paraglider construction. This is in order to make the airflow-relevant areas as crease-free as possible. Depending on the model, 3D shaping is either single or double in its construction.

We have supplemented the standard shaping with another 3D shaping at the leading edge to optimize the aerodynamic effect of the mini-ribs.

• Simple line concept; for easy line sorting

To ensure easy sorting of the lines and to keep the riser as clear as possible, all of the canopy’s line galleries are combined on just three riser levels. An intelligent mix of state-of-the-art materials with only covered lines guarantees durability and length stability with minimal drag. All main lines in a line group (e.g. AI, BI, CI) are the same length. This makes trim control quick and easy.

To make it easier to reach the brake handles on sizes XS and S, we have shortened the length of the risers from 520 mm to 490 mm.

• Coloured riser connections

To make it easier for you to prepare for the take-off, the hook-in loops and brake handles are color-coded. This allows you to see at a glance whether the risers are correctly attached to the harness.
